NGT in News Objective Long term objective of the act is of course protection of environment. Short term objective is to resolve the environmental dispute in speedy and effective manner. Didn't we had such authority earlier? Well, we had. Name was National Environmental Appellate Authority, under NEAA Act 1997. It was bit in-effective, that is why we passed new act for constitution of new authority. Like Board at National level, there are boards at each state level. These boards are powerful. Many a times if any roads need to be constructed in wild life sensitive areas, permission or approval from these boards are needed. We will give one example at the end of this phorticle(Article with Photos) about power of these boards. Who all are member of this board at state level ? And what are duties of these boards ? Introduction Human activities had lead to irreversible damage to environment. This intervention lead to increase in temperature, floods, droughts, cyclones and other such events.  The degradation was intensified after industrial revolution, dated back to 17th century. After world war 2, everybody wanted to be industrialized, developed and nuclear wielding Nation. This had further deteriorated the condition of environment. Well, some steps to prevent this destruction was need of the hour.
